The City of Santander has recently started its one month long practice of dedicating learning areas for the children on topics like recycling and waste prevention.
Every day from 15 August to 15 September from 11:00-18:00 3 playgrounds are set up on the beaches across the city. And as part of the activities at these playgrounds the city organises “Urban Waste” recycling workshops with kids. The workshops don’t have exact times but they take place whenever there are youngsters around what depends on the weather, time of the day and other conditions.
Santander, being one of the 11 pilot cities and regions of the URBAN-WASTE project, has well included the project’s objectives and values in the programme of the workshops. Apart from basic introduction of the projects and its importance, the young participants of the workshops also learn about waste sorting through a kit developed for this occassion, they also paint and enjoy other creative activities around the theme of waste reduction. They learn about different types of waste and much more.
The seniors, such as parents, grandparents and others can also learn through the participation of their children as Santander city’s project team explains them the objectives and importance of the project itself and how will the project reflect on Santander’s waste management practices.
