The forth Municipality Forum and the open Mutual Learning event within the URBAN-WASTE project is taking place in Nicosia on October 18 and 19.
The forth gathering of all 11 pilot cities and regions follows the recent developments and currently developing outcomes of the project. This is why the upcoming event will look at implementation and monitoring of waste management and prevention measures. This event will mainly focus on methods and measures for better waste management and prevention in the pilots while looking at experiences and testimonies from other European cities and projects who have already been through such a phase.
The event will be hosted by the Municipality of Nicosia who will also open the event together with the Ministry of Environment of Cyprus as an introduction to the current Cypriot performances when it comes to waste management.
The event will welcome a number of external speakers and guests, such as the Cypriot Ministry of Environment which will share their experiences from both a policy making point of view, as well as a partner on another European project – Blue Islands, which gathers a number of Mediterranean islands around the problem of water poluttion and marine litter. Apart from the ministry the participants will have the opportunity to hear practices from two campaigns and programmes – Wasteless which took place in Tuscany in Italy and Consumeless which is another initiative of numerous Mediterranean holiday destinations, such as Saranda in Albania, Ragusa in Sicily, Naxos in Greece and more. Alessio Romeo, from the French EkoVerde will also share his experience in this field.
The hosts have also provided a study visit to the local waste management facilities on the second day in order to have a better comprehension of the available capacities, infrastructure and performances.
