The Municipality of Nicosia under the URBAN-WASTE project, funded by the European Program for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020, organized the third Communities of Practice event in Nicosia last 23 November.
The workshop was attended by representatives of local tourist companies from hotels and restaurants, the Cyprus Tourism Organization, the Union of Municipalities and Communities, the Environmental Department, environmental organizations, and also organizations and individuals with specialization in waste management.
The aim of the workshop was to discuss the implementation of the selected measures aiming at the prevention and better management of waste in the tourist areas of the Municipality of Nicosia. A public open event will be held at the beginning of next year to present the measures to be implemented as well as all the organizations, businesses and institutions involved, that will actively contribute to the project’s progress with individual actions through their voluntary cooperation and participation in the program.
Additionally, during the workshop, the interactive WasteApp mobile application was presented by the Municipality of Nicosia, which will be effectively working in the 11 pilot cities and regions participating in the URBAN-WASTE project as well as the food waste monitoring system for food businesses.
