Our URBAN-WASTE partner, the Waste Management Development Company of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace DIAAMATH, together with the Kavala Port Authority left the 3rd Verde.tec 3rd international exhibition on environmental technologies with the Greek Green Award for their efforts and measures implemented at the Port of Kavala within the URBAN-WASTE project framework.
The 2019 Greek Green Awards ceremony was organised as a part of the 3rd edition of Verde.tec 3rd international exhibition on environmental technologies at Paiania ΜΕC exhibition centre in Athens, Greece on 15 February. The Greek Green Awards 2019 were awarded to proposals from Municipalities, Agencies and companies from all over Greece. On of the nominated proposals was also a joint one coming from DIMAATH and the Kavala Port Authority titled “Applying Packaging Waste Recycling Measures in the Port of Kavala – Apostolos Pavlos ” under the URBAN-WASTE project. By the end of the 3 day exhibition, which was held from 15 February to 17 February, DIAAMATH and the Kavala Port Authority walked away with the award in the category Urban Solid Waste for the Waste Management Ordinance in the port of Kavala. The prize was received by the Mayor of Thassos Mr. K. Hadjiemmanouil as a member of the Board of Directors of DIAAMATH.
This award is an acknowledgment of the initiatives, actions and implementation measures of the Port Authority and DIAAMATH, undertaken within the URBAN-WASTE project’s framework. More specifically, in the framework of the project, 25 separate collection stations for recyclable materials were installed in the area of the port of Kavala port “Apostolos Pavlos” so that both tourists and citizens of Kavala could have access to such service at the port.
It is worth mentioning as well that DIAAMATH, which participated with a booth at the Verde.tec 2019 exhibition, received a prize in the Environmental Awareness category for cardboard sorting referring to a proposal titled “Separate collection of paper packaging/paper/cardboard including source separation in the Municipalities of the Prefecture of Rodopi, in the Municipalities of Orestiada and Didymoteicho (northern Evros) and in the Municipality of Drama”.
