Communities of Practices
Policy makers, researchers, representatives of the industry and of the civil society, individual citizens and even tourists will be mobilized accordingly to this plan into Communities of Practices where they will be informed about the project activities and results and where they will be able to share experience, knowledge, opinions and intentions for the design and implementation of waste management strategies. These stakeholder groups will be actively invited to participate to the local project activities in the 11 pilot cases among Europe, ensuring a balance of genders, ages, family status, race and ethnicity. On the other side 11 mutual learning events will be organized during the project activities with the aim of exchanging view and best practices among the pilot cases and other relevant and interested decision makers in Europe.
CoPs are usually a spontaneous phenomenon among people who share common interests and passion who meet to learn from each other. CoPs are characterised by mutual engagement on a shared domain of interest, development of joint activities and sharing of a repertoire of resources – experiences, stories, etc. CoPs are different from workshops because of their continuity and from social network that has open boundaries and does not necessarily aims at learning. Under URBAN-WASTE the emergence of CoPs will be facilitated by local municipalities. CoPs will have several meetings opportunities proposed either by the local municipalities or spontaneously by the members of the CoPs themselves: meetings will take different forms (workshops, round tables, working groups) and cover several aspects. The role of municipalities, supported by the task leader and the guidelines provided in the Plan, will be to provide inputs for discussion – such as the results of the urban metabolism and behavioural analysis, the presentation of best practices – and to guide those towards the development of eco-innovative strategies.
